NYSC Exclusion Letter: How Part Time Graduates Can Apply

A Letter of Exclusion is not the same as a Certificate of Exemption. NYSC uses exclusion for eligible graduates whose mode of study places them outside national service, including part time graduates.

Official NYSC guidance states that part time graduates are expected to register online so that the Letter of Exclusion can be processed and printed online.

Confirm Your School Record

Your institution plays an important role in graduate data submitted for NYSC processing. Make sure your name, matriculation details and mode of study are correctly reflected by the school.

Register on the Official NYSC Portal

When NYSC opens registration for the relevant batch, use the official portal and complete the process with accurate personal and academic information.

Do not use a full time status if your official programme was part time. The NYSC record should match the information supplied by the institution.

Print the Exclusion Letter

NYSC states that both Nigerian trained and foreign trained graduates who are excluded from service can print their Letters of Exclusion online after the necessary process is completed.

Foreign Trained Graduates

Foreign trained graduates who are excluded are still subject to credential requirements. NYSC says foreign trained graduates must present the academic credentials and international passport documents uploaded for physical verification before the exclusion letter is printed online.

Temporary Exclusion Letters

NYSC says it no longer issues Temporary Letters of Exclusion because the process is intended to support prompt issuance of the original Letter of Exclusion through the online platform.

Use the Correct NYSC Instrument

Do not describe an Exclusion Letter as an Exemption Certificate. They are different NYSC instruments and may be requested separately by an employer or institution.

Keep a secure digital copy after printing and use the official NYSC verification process when an organization needs confirmation.

Important: NYSC schedules, portal procedures, fees, allowances and document requirements can change. For 2027, confirm the latest information on the official NYSC website and portal before taking action.
