NYSC Certificate of National Service: How to Collect and Verify It

The Certificate of National Service is issued to corps members who satisfactorily complete the service year. It is an important record for employment, further study and other official processes.

NYSC describes the service year as including orientation, primary assignment, Community Development Service and the winding up or passing out stage.

When the Certificate Is Issued

Eligible corps members normally receive the certificate at the completion of the service year according to NYSC passing out arrangements. Make sure outstanding administrative issues are resolved before the final stage.

Check the Details Immediately

When you receive the certificate, read the name and other details carefully. Keep the document flat, dry and secure.

What Happens to an Unclaimed Certificate

NYSC states that unclaimed Certificates of National Service are returned to the National Directorate Headquarters after the passing out exercise and are kept by the Certification Division.

Lost Certificate

NYSC provides a process for issuing confirmation in place of a lost Certificate of National Service. Do not pay someone to create a replacement certificate.

Verification by Employers and Institutions

NYSC has a Corps Certification function that processes verification requests for NYSC instruments from organizations. Employers that need confirmation should use the official verification process rather than relying only on a photocopy.

Protect Your NYSC Certificate

Scan the certificate for your private records, but keep the original secure. Avoid posting the full document publicly because it contains personal information.

If an employer asks for verification, direct the process through the official NYSC channel.

Important: NYSC schedules, portal procedures, fees, allowances and document requirements can change. For 2027, confirm the latest information on the official NYSC website and portal before taking action.
